If you have been experiencing issues whilst uploading flights recently it is likely to be a browser issue,
1) If the "next/right" arrow does nothing after choosing submit with igc or coordinates then please clear your cache and try again. Fixed, the problem was caused by some browsers automatically checking the igc button, this was not expected. The button is now always checked by default and should avoid any further problems.
2) If you can get to the spinning circle and it says "flight was flown over a month ago" then please update your browser. The spinning circle of stuff SHOULD now be replaced by an error message if the browser is not supported rather than just spinning endlessly and causing confusion. I have been unable to get any of my browsers to reproduce the error so I am working blind on this.
3) If another problem occurs I have broken it completely, please send me an angry email explaining how I am a fool along with any details about the issue.
I have checked all the latest builds of all the major browsers under windows (IE, Chrome, FireFox and Opera) but there will be some combinations I have missed (For example I have no idea if any of it works on Macs or mobile devices).
Once I have some free time I will try and make it more compatible again but for now exams are priority.
All of the results are now on the system including the combined comp tracks!
If there are any mistakes with gliders/clubs/scores please inform us.
Looking forward to round 2!
Scores are calculated by a different system to the comps score so positions may vary.
If your score seems quite off or we have associated you with the wrong club / glider please tell Phil and it will be changed - I used the last submitted flight as a reference for everyone as we comps team don't keep a record of club.
Fingers crossed the weather is good for the next couple of days!
Rob
Congrats also to Tim King on a rather large defined out and return, putting him in a respectable 4th place all-time.
Hopefully we will get a few more flights in from the day and some more days like it as well!
Bug Fixes-------------
Firefox and IE were not sending form data after asking for confirm for the last few days so if you entered a flight and got a never ending spinning circle of doom could you please enter it again.
Updates---------------
Flight uploads will now keep you informed about progress, if the circle of doom has no text in it then something has gone wrong with upload, if the circle of doom has stalled for a prolonged period of time please tell us the stage it has got up to.
There is also now the option to forgo triangle scoring if you believe it will not be a high score, this can dramatically improve the performance of the score calculator. We are constantly trying to improve the speed but accuracy must always come before speed

Also a quick reminder that as of this season all flights will require a 3D gps trace to be eligible for awards, 2D will be accepted for fun and unofficial scoring only.
Obviously it is still used to view the tables, this part will always be visible and depending on the size of your screen you will be able to change the table with either the old `basic` setting (for narrow screens, or the `advanced` settings found previously on the Custom Tables page.
You should also see a map on the left, unless you have a very narrow screen, which can be used to overlay the traces for any flights in the tables. To do this click the flight you wish to add and a box will appear with the flight details, including a button to add the flight.
If you can`t see all the sections but want to press ctrl+ - (control and minus keys) to zoom out. This will unfortunately make text smaller too.
If you don`t like this view please tell us why and you can continue to use the old version by using the link at the top of the page.
1) ALL flights will require a 3D trace.
After much talk we have been persuaded to change the rules of the league to allow only flights submitted with a trace that supports 3D coordinates as of the 1st December 2011. This is to create a fairer, policable competition for the new season. We are aware that not everyone owns a 3D enabled device, however the majority do, for the 2011 season 370 flights had a supporting trace while only 66 were manual entries - some of which came from pilots we know own a supported device.
2) Pilots will be able to roughly check their flights for airspace.
After you have entered your flight details and clicked submit a few more pages will appear depending on the details of your flight, the first page that may appear is choosing the section of the flight you wish to submit. This will happen if your gps trace has a gap of more then 60 seconds between two points. This is to allow the system to detect defects in traces caused by gpss being left on after landing or the like, which could unfairly increase a score. Unfortunately this could also happen if a gps looses signal mid flight so we can be lenient if your bring it to our attention. You can view the parts on a map by clicking a link on the page.
After choosing a part if necessary you will then be asked to choose the type of flight you wish to submit out of Open Distance, Out and Return or Triangle. The scores of each are shown with multipliers so you can choose the best for you. This page also contains a link to view your flight with an airspace overlay, while it is not perfect it will give you an idea and if need be you can use software such as SeeYou to properly check.
3) New system to upload competition flights.
After entering the BOS and CAC flights I thought it would be good for competition organisers to enter the flights for their comps. The system requires nothing more than a zip containing all the igcs and the details from compGPS. It will plot all the flights on a single map and allow you to enter then into the database.
4) Load multiple flights onto a map.
The tables have been modified to allow you to plot any flights you wish onto a map single, the old view for the tables still exists but I hope to move to the new form if there are no issues with it being like it is.
Rob
Next thing I will be working on is making it easier to distinguish the pilots in a gaggle.
I will have a bit of time on my hands these next few weeks so if anyone has suggestions for the site they will be more than welcome.
for example Handicap Test, 2010 with 0.8 on class 5
Rob
Rob
In case you haven't seen the, the other comps BOS round 1, BOS round 1 club class
Rob
If you send them to me along with any additional things you would like in the league (including a name for the league) I will see what I can sort out. Once I have one custom league up and running I will attempt to create an admin interface so you can skip me out entirly and organise them yourself.
OIf anyone has knowlage of a hg database with info on each glider I could allow you to create a "formula" from this info to create the glider handicaps automatically as well.
Rob
The people who had tried to create users but and then been unable to log in will need to re-create their account, sorry about that.
Out of 237 flights with a supporting log, only 31 were 2d logs.
For the remained of this season we have no intention of limiting flights to only 3d logs. As of next season however the official table MAY be redefined to only contain such flights and 2d logs with no chance of airspace infringement. If this is the case then an 'unofficial' league will still be available with the current criteria for flights.
Of course, if any flight this season is found to be within airspace it will be removed.
With the exception of BOS Goal flights no defined flights will be accepted without text notification
A vertical line will also travel across the height map to show the relative progression through the flight. If the slider and the red line are not aligned that is because the igc has not got constant time steps, the height graph maps height against time from first point while the slider is for each point not time.
Right now I am working on improving the viewing system to allow all the flights from a comp task to be displayed together and followed through time. Hopefully this will be interesting to people.
- The number of waypoints allowed in an out and return flight has been changed from 5 to 4. That is a start, 1 or two turn point(s) and a finish within 800m of the start.
these changes have been made as they better match the results given by GPS Dump which means everyone is on a level playing field no matter if they submit a track or not. The old rules, allowing 3 turn points, were originally lifted from the old NXCL site but was only used for 4 flights without supporting tracks. On another note the rules do allow for out and returns with 2 turn points and these are supplied from gps dump as the largest of either triangle or flat triangle however with a 3x multiplier triangles will always be optimal being submitted as a triangle.
We hope this is acceptable to most if not all of you but if you have any doubts we are open to discussion.
To all of you who had usernames in the previous incarnation they will no longer work as we can't recover these from wikidot.
Thanks again and hopefully we will have no more teething issues.
Rob Chett.
- The login and forms are now linked. If you register it will allow you to have you pilot, glider and club filled out when you go to submit a flight, saving you a few precious seconds.
- We now require an IGC along with the KML file. This is so we can check airspace with ease to stop a few people complaining. We are working on making out own KMLs so only IGC is required.
- Custom tables, allowing you to make your own with the database, will make a separate threat to discuss this.
- We now have a section to let you add some extra info for your flight if you wish too along with private info for the admins. You can also delay publication until we look at / edit part of your flight as per your request.
- Flights which will not count towards the UK league (i.e. flown outside the UK) can now be entered and will show in your pilot log.
We aren't perfect so please use the forum if anything is amiss.

Rules
The UK National XC League
Rules For the submission of Cross Country (XC) Flights
The UK National XC League aims to encourage competition by enabling pilots to compete nationally against all comers in a manner that is fun whilst, at the same time, promoting safe and responsible flying.
Eligibility
- Only flights that originate within the geographic boundaries of the United Kingdom of Great Britain will be accepted for the league. Provided that, at no time during a flight are the rules governing controlled and/or restricted airspace contravened and local rules regarding access and use of takeoff and landing sites are not infringed.
- Flights outside the UK will be accepted for personal logs only and will not show on any official tables. Such flights must be accompanied by a flight log.
- Pilots are allowed 2 flights under club rating with relevant supervision to be entered into the system, anyone with a Pilot rating can enter as many flights as they wish.
Season Dates
Competition Season Flying seasons run from 1st November to 31st October the following year with a winter season ending on the last day of February each year
Gliders and Launch
All classes of hang glider are welcome in the league. We accept hill (foot), winch and aerotow as launch methods. A flight which began with a tow launch will only be accepted if the pilot released from the tow at a height of 2000ft AGL or less.
Entry Fee
The league services are provided free of charge and will remain so for as long as we run it.
Types of flights
We limit flights in official tables to those over 10 points where points are determined by distance (km) * multiplier. Different flight type have different multipliers depending on difficulty
Open Distance Flights
- From any start point to any finish point with up to three intermediate turn points.
- Start and finish points need not be launch and landing.
- Distance scored will be distance flown between waypoints.
- No multipliers with be applied for an open distance flight.

Goal Flights
- From any declared start point to any declared finish with up to three declared intermediate turn points.
- Start and finish points need not be launch and landing.
- All turnpoints must me met to within 400m, if any turnpoint is missed the flight will score as an open-distance.
- The score given is calculated from the centre of the goal cylinders and NOT the actual flight path.
- A completed Goal Flight will score 1.25 times the distance flown.
- An incomplete Goal Flight will score Open Distance (see above).

Out and Return Flights
- From any start point and back (within 800m) with one turn point.
- The start does not need to be the launch and the end does not need to be the landing
- A completed Out and Return will score 2.0 times the distance flown.

- An incomplete Out and Return will score Open Distance (see above).
- A Defined Out and Return will score 2.5 time the distance flown.

Triangle flights
- From any start point via 2 turn points and back to the start point (within 800m).
- The start does not need to be the launch and the end does not need to be the landing
- For a flight to be recorded as a Triangle it must be complete and satisfy the FAI's 28% Rule, (shortest side must be greater than, or equal to, 28% of the distance flown).

- A completed Triangle that satisfies 28% rule will score 2.5 times the distance flown.
- A completed Triangle that does NOT satisfy 28% rule will score as Out and Return (see above).
- An incomplete Triangle will score Open Distance (see above).
- A Defined Triangle will score 3.0 times the distance flown.

Defined Flight
A defined flight is a Goal, Out and Return or Triangle that was declared no more than 24 hours before takeoff and where such declaration was recorded and witnessed. To declare the flight please text the details (your name and the coordinates) to 07747885677 or email us
Ridge Lift
Regardless of the above, a flight will only be eligible for any bonus score if at least 60% of the distance flown is out of ridge lift
Results
Composition of League Tables Complete Results are only published on our website at UKNXCL, a subset of the results are forwarded to Skywings, monthly, for publication at their discretion. There are a multitude of different league tables for you to look at. Some qualify for trophies at the end of each season; others are there just for your information and interest.
Individual League Tables
- Separate league tables are compiled for Class 1 and Class 5 Hang Gliders and Paragliders, but for convenience and comparison they are displayed together
- Each entry in a league table is compiled from a pilots best six flights in the appropriate category (post 2003).
- For six flights to count in our Main, (and Ladies), League table a pilot MUST submit at least one Open Distance flight AND one Defined flight along with any four other flights
-
Club League Table
- The Official Club League table is compiled from the best six flights from a Clubs top four scoring pilots.
-
Winter League Tables
- Are essentially Individual League Tables of flights flown between Nov 1st and the last day Feb in any given season
Prizes
Prizes for League winners and various categories of flight are awarded by, and at the discretion of, the BHPAs Hang Gliding Competitions Panel
Special Cases
There are none, All flights from both competitors in other competitions and from the free flying community will be treated in an identical manner
Submitting Flights
- ALL Flight entries must be submitted through the online form provided on our website and *should* be submitted within 28 Days of the date of the flight.
- There is a 1 month period at the end of a season for flights to be submitted, after that the season is "closed" and no more flights shall be accepted.
- We initially accept all flights submitted on trust so they may be entered into the database and published on the website as soon as possible.
Verification of Flights after Submission The UK NXCL competition is run on trust. Pilots submitting Flights are responsible for the accuracy of information submitted. The competition is policed by your peers. In the event of any dispute over a particular flight entry, it will be deleted from the results until such time as the submitting Pilot is able to provide irrefutable evidence in support of any claim they make. To include
- Witness statements
- Time stamped Photographs
- GPS Track-log data
A growing number of pilots are using GPS's to record their flight tracks. We accept GPS Track log data, in support of a flight, in IGC data format.
